Bad Toothache
Having a bad toothache can really ruin your day. The throbbing pain won’t go away and it can really put you in a bad mood. Fortunately, when you have a bad toothache there are lots of things you can do to relieve the pain. You do need to try and determine what is causing the pain first, though. Some of the reasons for a bad toothache include gum disease, cracked teeth, cavities, exposed roots, and the like. When you have a bad toothache, the pain may be bearable or else it may so bad that you can’t focus on anything other than the pain. If you have dental pain that you consider a bad toothache you really want to schedule an appointment with your dentist to determine where the pain is coming from, what it is for, and how you can treat it.
Remember, however, that not all bad toothaches are actually from a problem with the teeth. Sinus problems are huge culprits in causing dental pain, but there is nothing wrong with the teeth. In this situation, the bad toothache is felt in the root area of the tooth all the way through. Once the sinus infection or allergies are cleared up, the bad toothache goes away. Some people with a bad toothache actual have heart problems. If you go to your dentist and there is no obvious reason for your bad toothache then you should talk with your doctor about heart problems. Many people with heart problems learn about it because of a bad toothache.
Generally, when you have a bad toothache you will have a dental reason behind it. This could include impaction, dental cavities, gum disease, abscessed tooth, and more. In most situations, people with a bad toothache simply have a cavity. If this occurs to you then you will need to have a dentist fill it. A cavity is when a hole is worn into the dentin and enamel as a result of plaque and bacteria. The bacteria are actually responsible for cavities because they help wear away the dentin and enamel. A bad toothache occurs when the bacteria eats a big enough hole in a tooth to start causing the person some serious pain. At this point, the dentist can diagnose the pain and treat it through filling the cavity.
A filling is placed in a cavity after the decay has been drilled away. Then, a filling is placed inside to make the tooth like new again. If you have a bad toothache, you can always check and see if your dentist has an appointment open. Many times, they can work you in to see your cavity. This is especially so on Saturdays.
Gum disease is another big reason for a bad toothache. When the soft tissues, called the gum, around the teeth become affected then you could have gum disease. This is actually quite common, but people simply don’t recognize the symptoms. This is really important in a situation like this because people with gum disease or just a simply cavity will want to get in and get out as soon as possible.
These are just some methods to help you diagnose a bad toothache and when to tell if it is time to call the dentist. The best thing you can do is treat your cavities as soon as they occur. You can prevent cavities by always brushing your teeth and having problems dealt with as soon as they occur.
