Wisdom teeth removal is definitely one dental procedure that most patients dread. Typically your wisdom teeth will appear at the ages of 16 -– 24 but can happen earlier or later than this. The wisdom teeth are the 4 teeth that come in at the end of each row of teeth. Patients with impacted teeth are more likely to get an infection than those with normal teeth. This is because food particles can get caught in between the teeth and gum lines which is why wisdom teeth removal is so important.

Wisdom teeth removal requires a surgical procedure in which you will be given anesthesia. This will help you to stay relaxed and pain free during the procedure. You will be numb so other than the sounds of the dentist tools and pressure you shouldn’t feel any real pain. The dentist will cut the gum line around each tooth in order to prepare it for the wisdom teeth removal. Once the tooth has been extracted you will then be given stitches to close the area where the teeth where removed. This will allow your gums to heal safely and prevent further bleeding.

After your wisdom teeth removal has taken place the dentist will send you home with antibiotics to treat or prevent any future infections associated with the procedure. He will also give you some type of pain medication which should be taken around 30 minutes or so before the anesthesia is to wear off. The pain after a wisdom teeth removal can be severe for the first couple of days so be careful what you eat so you don’t hurt yourself further. Also make sure you follow all of the instructions that the dentist gave you to help you recover quickly.
